Cleaning and Maintenance of Tomb 1-21-2021

January 21, 2021 – Dan Safford and Margaret Safford Canella, descendants of Helen Joy Landry Safford, visited the tomb with an extension ladder.  We removed the vines and trees at the top of the tomb and treated the cut ends with herbicide to kill the vines.  We owe a huge THANK YOU to Dan.  He has maintained the vine issues on the tomb for many years single handedly!  Thank You Dan!

Cleaning & Maintenance of Tomb 12-28-2020

December 28th, 2020 – Jeff and Ryan Regan – descendants of Hattie Landry Whitson visited the tomb and removed a lot of the vines with a large ladder.  They were not able to get above the ledge to the top.  These are before and after shots of their work.  Thank you Jeff & Ryan!

This Desire Landry Family tomb illustrates what happens to aged cement/ grout stucco on a tomb.
This is an old tomb in the graveyard that has been banded and braced together to prevent further deterioration of the tomb. This would not be possible with our Landry Tomb because of the unique angles on it.

Old tomb with severe root damage.
Here you can see a large root that was cut off coming from the old tomb and the severe crumbling damage it caused.
Crumbling bricks lying all around the crumbling tomb.
L. Dehon tomb. This illustrates crumbling stucco. It also might be an option for us to use some type of permanent plaque on the outside of the tomb to indicate the known graves inside our Landry Tomb.

Karen Safford pulls weeds from the tomb. Notice how the stone work is missing on this corner.
Dan Safford has taken care of the tomb for many years! Here he is pulling vines off the tomb. The vines are a constant problem!
This is a grave site next to the Landry Lomb. Much research was done by the Whitsons to have the VA provide the bronze plaque. According to cemetery records Martin Hypolite Landry was buried in this plot.
Here you can see the crypt inside the tomb where grave robbers tried to break in. We think they were deterred somehow, perhaps because the casket is iron and they couldn't get it out. So sad.........

Margie LeBlanc visits the tomb of her grandparents, Theodore Seghers Landry and Octavie Terrio. It is located 38 plots directly in front of the big Landry tomb on the left.

On Wednesday, September 19, 2018 Alice Whitson-Regan and her friend, Jamie visited the Landry Tomb.  Jamie climbed inside and removed a wad of weeds, some cans, bottles and trash.  They got what they could carry out to the trash can.  Next time they plan to bring a garbage bag with them!
